Over 70% of truckers say staying healthy is the hardest part of their day. When you’re on the road every day and deadlines need to be met, what you are eating, drinking, and doing to your body are not always at the top of your list of worries. Here are eight tips that can easily be a part of your everyday routine that can change your health dramatically.
PLAN AHEAD. If you know you are not going to be making very many stops and you always feel hungry in-between meals, pack easy, healthy snacks before you hit the road. It’s just as easy to grab an apple or carrots as it is to grab a bag of chips.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Most of the time, when someone feels hungry, they are actually just dehydrated. Drinks like sodas are not hydrating and do not quench your thirst. Drinking lots of water makes you not only feel better, but you eat less as well.
SLEEP, SLEEP. SLEEP! Always make sure you try to get the right amount of sleep each night. Being sleep deprived can lead to not only obesity and bad eating habits, but it can cause you to lose alertness putting you and others at risk.
TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN. Taking a multivitamin daily takes very little time but does miracles for you. Being on the road makes it hard to get all the nutrients you need. By taking a multivitamin, you can worry less about getting all the vitamins and minerals needed in a day.
NEVER SKIP OUT ON BREAKFAST. Eating breakfast helps start up your metabolism. Missing breakfast will cause you to have a slower metabolism as well as lose energy. Losing energy makes it hard to do daily functions, like driving.
BEANS, GREENS, AND WHOLE GRAINS. Beans and whole grain foods are very good for you. They are a source of energy and protein.
AVOID SUGARS AND SIMPLE CARBS. White breads, white rice, potatoes, soda, candy, and corn syrup are very unhealthy options. If caffeine is needed, coffee is a good alternative to sodas and energy drinks because it does benefit you as long as too much isn’t consumed.
KNOW YOU NEED TO BE HEALTHIER. Knowing you need to be healthier allows you to want to actually be healthier.
Being healthy may seem difficult but in actuality, it can be the easiest part of your day! What tips do you use to stay healthy on the road?
